The Condition: Island of Merged Cultures
A speculative island between Johannesburg and Hong Kong, and the project where I started making fictional landscapes.
The island sits somewhere between Johannesburg and Hong Kong, and is merged from the two cities into a hybrid of both cultures. It stands for my Chinese heritage and my South African upbringing: its coast is drawn from a mix of the Hong Kong and South African borders, and it is populated with significant landmarks from both sides.
